How to Become a Health Insurance Agent in Florida

Always having a passion for helping others, real estate was a career that allowed me to do just that. But it wasn’t until 15 years later that I was introduced into the Health insurance industry by a friend. Initially, I had no interest until I realized and saw firsthand how life-changing it was, being able to take that step even further, to be able to change people’s lives, especially when it came to their medical needs. Not only does this industry allow me to help others but it has also given me the financial freedom, which I never knew was possible, by building my book of business and by doing so gives me residual income year after year. It is the first year that is the most challenging for most, myself included. My main focus when I first began, knowing that the first year is the most difficult, I started by setting up booths at the local markets which gave me the opportunity to get out in the community and meet others and let them know what it is that I do. It was at that moment, I realized the need for health insurance and how many are without it. From there, my business has been built on referrals ever since my first year. 

Steps to get Health Insurance license in Florida 

Becoming an insurance agent in Florida is not as difficult as one may think. There are basic requirements to follow and as long as you put in the time and effort, it’s easy as 1-2-3. When deciding to get your Insurance license, there are several licenses to choose from. The most common one is your 2-15 License (Health & Life Including Annuities & Variable Contracts).  You must first complete the required 60 hours approved course either in person or online. However, there are other alternatives that will satisfy that requirement. Once you’ve completed the required education, it’s time to apply for your Florida insurance license. That can be done through Florida’s Division of Insurance Agents and Agency Services webpage. From there you will be required to submit a fingerprinting and background check, and then sit for the Florida Insurance License Exam. Once passed the licensing review and Exam you are now on your way to becoming a Licensed Insurance Agent. You won’t regret it! It’s one of the most satisfying career choices out there.
